Indications/Uses
Nexonav PUD & other conditions where inhibition of gastric acid secretion may be beneficial including aspiration syndrome, healing of erosive esophagitis, dyspepsia, GERD & Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Nexonav IV Short-term treatment (up to 10 days) of GERD patients w/ a history of erosive esophagitis as an alternative to oral therapy in patients when therapy w/ esomeprazole EC tab is not possible or appropriate. Treatment of PUD & NSAID-associated ulceration in GERD & Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Nexonav EC tab Adult 1-2 EC tab once daily. Dyspepsia 10 or 20 mg daily for 2-4 wk. GERD 20-40 mg once daily for 4-12 wk or max daily dose of 40 mg for 4-12 wk. Erosive reflux esophagitis 40 mg once daily for 4 wk. PUD 20 mg once daily or 40 mg daily in severe cases, may be continued for 4 wk (for duodenal ulcer) & 8 wk (for gastric ulcer). Maintenance: 10-20 mg once daily. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 40 mg bid, may be increased to 80-160 mg daily in divided doses or bid. NSAID-associated ulceration 20 mg daily. Nexonav IV inj GERD w/ history of erosive esophagitis Adult 20 or 40 mg once daily by IV inj (not <3 min) or infusion (10-30 min) once daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Nexonav Take at least 1 hr before meals. Swallow immediately, do not chew. Do not store mixt for future use.
Contraindications
Nexonav Hypersensitivity. Nexonav IV Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole Na or to substituted benzimidazoles.
Special Precautions
Nexonav May interfere w/ antiretroviral drugs & drugs affected by gastric pH changes. Not recommended in pregnancy. Nexonav IV Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nexonav Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash & dizziness. Nervousness, abnormal heartbeat, muscle pain, weakness, leg cramps & water retention. Nexonav IV Headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting & inj site reaction.
Drug Interactions
Nexonav Decreased elimination of diazepam. Reduced absorption & blood conc of ketoconazole. Increased absorption & blood conc of digoxin. Increased saquinavir blood levels & reduced nelfinavir & atazanavir blood levels. Nexonav IV Ketoconazole, itraconazole, diazepam, phenytoin, warfarin, cisapride, clarithromycin, atazanavir, nelfinavir, voriconazole, saquinavir.
